Director, Curriculum & Instruction

REPORTS TO: Managing Director, Social Ventures

The Social Ventures team at Per Scholas has launched Platform by Per Scholas, a new, large-scale, customized training effort that contracts with large US-based information technology services companies to train local talent for in-demand roles. We are a small, multi-disciplinary team seeking individuals who can ensure the success of this new initiative.


Platform by Per Scholas (“Platform”) has an opening for a Director, Curriculum & Instruction who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and has a strong training and development background. As a curriculum and content developer, you will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and developing high-quality training content for information technology and career advancement learning programs offered by Platform. You will be an important member of the Social Ventures team managing at least 4 to 6 instructors, and responsible for the delivery of high-quality skill-based information technology training for 400 adult students annually. This position works in close coordination with the Director of Social Ventures and Innovation.


This role focuses on instructional design, curriculum development, and program management. This is not a training delivery role as it does not involve regular classroom delivery of training, though occasional instruction will be required. You will play a significant role in the training, development and ongoing evaluation of a successful and effective instructor team.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Social Ventures & Innovation to engage our employer’s business teams, subject matter experts (SMEs), and Platform instructors to create curriculum, course content, and training on Platform’s information technology and career advancement curriculum
  • Use project management tools and skills to manage medium-to-large scale content development projects
  • Utilize adult learning principles and systematic instructional design to build content that meets learners needs
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new learning models and content design templates.
  • Leverage rapid, agile development techniques and processes to create content for a rapidly changing environment. Lead process improvement efforts.
  • Develop exercises, tutorials, job aids, assessments, and other methods of learning to include social or connected learning strategies and multimedia-based assets.
  • Lead needs analyses and learning strategy development activities to improve individual and organizational performance through learning.


Professional Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science or Mathematics, or equivalent combination of education and experience, and a minimum of 5+ years’ work experience in IT, including at least:
    • 2 years in developing corporate training and coding boot camp solutions,
    • 2 years of experience in technical writing and content design
    • 1-2 years of teaching experience with adult (18+) populations beneficial; Experience with curriculum, syllabus development, and lesson planning required
  • Solid Learning Management Tools skills (SCORM)
  • Strong team orientation — desire to be part of a national learning team and to lead the team in the areas of technology.
  • Sound interpersonal skills — experience working with diverse individuals and groups with varying learning styles; experience in workforce development a plus.
  • Experience with student assessment and a talent for evaluating curriculum for merits and areas of improvement evaluate the curriculum to identify what is working and what improvements can be made.
  • Experience understanding and converting business requirements into tangible training initiatives.
  • Must be passionate about new trends in information technology (Cloud, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Agile, etc.)
  • Ability to translate and explain technical requirements using 1-slide presentation or modern infographic.

Technology Qualifications

  • Programming Java, C# or C++
  • Software Aid PowerPoint, MS Word, Excel, Visio, Trello, PDF, Storytelling software.
  • Databases: Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL
