Manager, Technical Design & Instruction, New York

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Per Scholas is seeking a Manager, Technical Design & Instruction to launch its Youth Career Pathways initiative.  The Manager will join a new team at Per Scholas that will strategically implement an initiative to partner with high schools to design and development pathways for students to postsecondary careers in tech.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

This role focuses on instructional design, curriculum development, and program management.  Occasional involvement in regular classroom engagement and instruction may be required.  You will play a significant role in developing and launching a school-facing introductory technical curriculum geared towards high school age youth and young adults.  You will:

  • Collaborate with the Director of School Partnerships and the Manager of Youth Career Pathway Operations to engage employer’s business teams, subject matter experts (SMEs), and high school teachers to create curriculum, course content, and training on information technology, cybersecurity, web development, and other technical career pathways.
  • Incorporate instructional design principles in the development of lesson plans, assessments, and tutorials to meet students’ learning needs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new high school models for work-based learning in technology fields.
  • Manage partnerships with teachers, youth advocates, and community-based organizations to guide the delivery of curriculum to high school students.  
  • Co-teach, model, and lead instruction with high school teachers where appropriate.
  • Research new technology trends to ensure that work-based learning remains current.
  • As a member of an internal start-up team, support all aspects of program implementation.
  • Participate in occasional outreach with teenagers and young adults who are interested in pursuing postsecondary careers in tech.  

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO US:

Professional Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or higher in Computer Science or Mathematics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience designing introductory technical content
  • 1-2 years of teaching experience with youth or young adult populations beneficial.  
  • Experience with curriculum, syllabus development, and lesson planning, preferred 
  • Technical knowledge in one (or more) of the following fields: IT, cybersecurity, network engineering or web development.
  • Ability to distill complex concepts for diverse audiences who have limited or no prior exposure to technical training
  • Per Scholas graduate preferred
