Director, Individual Giving

LOCATION: Any Per Scholas Market

REPORTS TO: Executive Vice President, Development and Communications


Per Scholas seeks a creative, energetic and experienced fundraiser to provide overall leadership for Per Scholas’ Individual Giving strategy. The Director of Individual Giving will develop and manage an ambitious national program for boosting individual giving at each donor segment, ranging from online campaigns to special events and major donors. The candidate will manage the process of identifying, cultivating and stewarding individual donors, develop new annual events and campaigns to celebrate Per Scholas’ impact and draw in new sustainable supporters throughout our markets. S/he will support Managing Directors and the National Leadership team in catalyzing our National Board and local advisory boards as fundraisers, including providing training, developing toolkits, and implementing new processes.

As a key member of the Development team, the Director of Individual Giving will report to the EVP for Development and Communications, and work closely with Senior Development Managers and Managing Directors in each of 8 current markets. Candidates will be based out of any of the following locations: Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Greater Cincinnati, OH; Columbus, OH; Dallas, TX; the National Capital Region; New York, NY; Newark, NJ.


Develop & Implement Individual Giving Program

  • Create and launch national and local campaigns to acquire new and retain current individual donors
  • Design and execute new creative donor engagement strategies to increase giving from current, lapsed and new individual donors
  • Create a major donor program with annual targets, and implement plans to manage and grow each relationship
  • Build and manage relationships with prospects and donors through meetings, personalized outreach, event invitations, and regular communications efforts
  • Partner with our Communications, IT/IS and programmatic teams to more effectively engage untapped donor segments, including alumni, volunteers and employee matched gifts
  • Train and support managing directors and development managers to effectively retain and migrate individual donors to higher giving levels

Lead signature fundraising events

  • Plan and execute donor events including cultivation events and program tours, with support of Events Manager
  • Develop and manage a new national event series to engage high-wealth individuals to support Per Scholas’ work, with the support for the Marketing & Communications Team
  • Ensure all events reflect Per Scholas’ mission and brand, and convey the professionalism and impact of our work, and the inspiring stories of our students
  • Create event templates and training for local market leaders and development managers to support local donor cultivation and fundraising events


Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent practical experience) required
  • Minimum 7-10 years fundraising experience, including special events and individual giving 
  • Proven track record of fundraising success
  • Highly skilled relationship manager, with experience using a CRM to assist in advancing and maintaining donor relations 
  • Demonstrated ability to solicit five to six-figure gifts and steward a portfolio of high-level donors
  • Proven ability to generate revenue growth and meet ambitious revenue goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to think on your feet
  • Experience using strong analytical skills and data to drive investments and shift strategies if they are not cost effective
  • Background developing, managing, and implementing projects, plans, and processes
  • Ability to travel 30% of the time
